The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies has appointed Fredrik Oldsjö as Chief Executive Director

Fredrik Oldsjö will assume the role of Chief Executive Director of the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies (Östersjöstiftelsen) on October 1, 2026. He currently serves as Head of the Management Office, Deputy University Director, and Acting Head of Human Resources at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH.

Fredrik has extensive experience in leadership roles within academia, including positions as Head of Faculty Office and Director of the Centre for the Advancement of University Teaching at Stockholm University, as well as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Head of Department at the former Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. He holds a PhD, awarded in 2001, and has a background as a researcher and teacher of Latin at Uppsala University and Stockholm University.

“I have experience in strategic work at the university level regarding education and research, quality assurance systems, and national and international collaborations. As Chief Executive Director, I aim to contribute to the Foundation’s continued development as a major funder of leading research on the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. These are highly relevant and timely fields of research in the current climate, and I am delighted at the opportunity to lead the Foundation in its vital mission for society” says Fredrik Oldsjö.
