According to the Statutes, research funded by the Foundation must be related to the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe. The \u2018Eastern Europe\u2019 part comprises post-communist Central, South and East Europe. The \u2018Baltic Sea Region\u2019 part is the Baltic Sea itself and the surrounding areas. The Foundation does not fund research relating exclusively to Sweden or Swedish conditions. However, support may be granted for research concerning Sweden, or countries entirely outside the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe, in comparative studies when this is scientifically justified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For research to be judged as highly relevant to the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe, it must make a concrete contribution to our knowledge of this area. Research that involves collaboration with researchers and research institutions, and with other stakeholders in the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe, is particularly relevant. Research with a more theoretical main question, in which the importance of the Baltic Sea Region or Eastern Europe is not reflected in the main question or the link to the area is indirect, is regarded as less relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
