Application system<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. How can I update my email address in the application system?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact the Foundation\u2019s secretariat to request an email update. Changes cannot be made by applicants directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> <strong>Can I modify a submitted application?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications cannot be altered after submission. Contact the Foundation\u2019s secretariat for assistance before the application deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>Do I need a new application for stage 2?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No, revise your existing application in the system and attach updated documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Practicallly in the application system: <\/strong>select &#8220;create application&#8221; and stage 2 for the respective form of support. Then the application system retrieves information from your application in stage 1 (except for the attachments).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Is my application submitted? I have not received confirmation from the application system.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The application system does not send confirmation that an application has been submitted. To verify its submission, log in to the application system and check that the space under \u2018Status\u2019 for the application shows \u2018Submitted\u2019. There, the application submitted can also be downloaded as a PDF file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B. Applicants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Can I apply for funding if I\u2019m not employed at S\u00f6dert\u00f6rn University?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, to apply, you do not need to be employed at S\u00f6dert\u00f6rn University. If the project is approved, the project manager must be employed at S\u00f6dert\u00f6rn University during the project period. For other participants, some time must be spent at S\u00f6dert\u00f6rn University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Do I need a doctoral degree to apply for funding?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Two- and three-year projects:<\/strong> All researchers must have a doctoral degree by the application date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Postdoctoral projects:<\/strong> Doctoral students may apply on condition that they will obtain the degree before the grant period starts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grand projects:<\/strong> All researchers must have a doctoral degree by the application date. Exception: funds can be applied for PhD students, these are recruited after the project start.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research networks:<\/strong> Doctoral students can participate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>What is considered to be equivalent to Swedish doctoral degree?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Foundation follows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhr.se\/en\/start\/recognition-of-foreign-qualifications\/\">the assessment by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Can Baltic Sea Programme researchers (professors and associate senior lecturers) apply for funding?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, but they cannot apply for their own salary for the project period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Can I apply for funding if I am over 67 years old or retired?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no age limit, but salaries can only be paid to employed researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">C. Project budget<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. How should salaries for external researchers be calculated?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coordinate with the S\u00f6dert\u00f6rn University, Head of School (<em>prefekt<\/em>), to specify salaries, social security contributions and overhead costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. How do I account for non-research staff in my budget?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>List their costs under &#8220;other costs&#8221;, including salaries and social security contributions. Specify and justify these in the budget commentary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>Can I apply for conference or workshop funding within a project?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, if they are integral and well-motivated parts of the research design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. What are the rules for calculating costs for stays abroad?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Short stays (up to 90 days): Follow government reimbursement regulations. Travel costs for family members are not covered during shorter stays abroad.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Longer stays: Use the URA government agreement for calculations (especially when costs concern family members).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Questions concerning detailed cost calculations should be posed to the grant administrator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> <strong>Are long-term accommodation costs for international researchers covered?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long-term accommodation in Sweden is not covered. Contact the Foundation\u2019s secretariat for guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D. Research networks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Can ongoing research networks apply for continuation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, you can submit a new application concerning continuation in the call for research networks. Include a clear description of previous achievements and future plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">E. Approved projects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. What if I cannnot start my project on the date of project start specified in the agreement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research projects<\/strong> (two- and three-year projects, postdoctoral projects and grand projects) have a one-year of extra grant availability period beyond the original project time. This means that projects can start later, during the first project year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thematic call \u201cthe war in Ukraine and its consequences\u201d:<\/strong> A longer period of additional grant availability is added to grants that will be awarded under the thematic call to allow flexibility with the start date of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. What are the rules for project participant employment?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employment terms are the responsibility of the grant administrator. Coordinate with the&nbsp;Head of School (<em>prefekt<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>Can I continue as a project manager after retirement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It depends, a full-time retiree cannot be project manager.
