Entrepreneurship and Small Business in the Baltic Sea Region

The project studied entrepreneurship and innovative organizational practices in a variety of institutional environments in Sweden and in Poland, and included the following projects:

1. Social entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurial action in network creation and maintenance. The study focused on the creation and maintenance of bridging networks andprovided the conceptual framework for the program’s networking strategy. It evolved into an ongoing R&D project on the creation of entrepreneurial teams.

2. The entrepreneurship dimension of network and virtual forms of organizing. Research was conducted in SMEs within the IT sector.

3. The relation among innovative modes of organising, critical resources (knowledge), technological breakthroughs and value creation.The project focused on new forms of organizing primarily in retail and banking.

4. Entrepreneurial governance and entrepreneurship within the public (primarily municipal) sector. Research on the formation of partnership and development strategies explored the development of the Södertörn council, and entrepreneurial governance primarily in

5. The municipalities Huddinge (Sweden) and Tychy (Poland).

Studies in Poland were greatly aided by a network comprising of a number of leading Schools of Economics in Poland (Warsaw, Kraków, Katowice) that was established by the program. Together with these partners (and the Univ of Durham) the program is a founding member of the internal conference series “Entrepreneurship, Employment and Beyond”. Besides numerous publications and conferences, the project’s findings were also disseminated through a series of doctoral courses within the Summer University of South Stockholm.
