Projektet ingår som en del i det nationella nätverket Sverige under Kalla Kriget (SUKK) som är ett samarbetsprogram för främst historiker och statsvetare. Inom dess ram har hittills publicerats en rad doktorsavhandlingar och arbetsrapporter. Denna del av SUKK- programmet handlar om svensk syn på Sovjet under 1900-talets första del. Tre centrala Sovjetkännare har valts ut för närmare studium, nämligen Nils Lind, Otto Järte och Arthur Montgomery. En detaljerad kartläggning och analys av deras syn på den gåtfulle och skrämmande grannen under olika perioder: revolutionsåren, NEP-perioden, utrensningarna under 1930-talet, andra världskriget har genomförts. Studien följer vidare deras uppfattning om systemets karaktär, folkets levnadsförhållanden, utrikespolitiska målsättningar etc. Analysen anknyter till totalitarismdebatten och den av Edvar Said inspirerade debatten om västerlandets syn på Den Andre.
